About Soul of Athens
Soul of Athens is an online collaborative multimedia project exploring the Southeast Ohio region through in-depth stories and technological innovation. It began in 2007 with a small group of students from Ohio University's School of Visual Communication, and has since expanded to include students from E. W. Scripps School of Journalism and the School of Media Arts and Studies.
Over the course of fifteen weeks, the Soul of Athens experiment not only decides what stories are told but how they are told. Different backgrounds and processes come together in pursuit of a common vision.
Turning Point, the theme of the 2013 edition of Soul of Athens, became a call for stories that revealed the diverging paths of the people of Southeast Ohio. While every life has a turning point, the paths we take quickly make us unique. This year's Soul of Athens seeks to trace profound changes back to the moments — big or small — that marked a fork in the road.
